Man’s home under siege by yobs throwing stones

A DONCASTER man is living in fear after yobs targeted him because he has campaigned against anti-social behaviour in his community.
Tim Knowles has had windows smashed at his Bentley home on two successive nights and is worried what will happen next.

The first incident occurred last Saturday when a stone was thrown through a back bedroom window at the rented property in Balfour Road, New Village.

It was boarded up by his landlord but on Monday night Mr Knowles was at home when he heard the sound of glass shattering and discovered his bathroom window was also smashed.

“After the first incident I thought it was a one-off but now I realise I am being targeted,” said Mr Knowles, who is a former vice chairman of the local Tenants and Residents’ Association.

“Now I feel as though I can’t leave the house. After all I’ve done for the community to try and reduce anti-social behaviour I don’t know why I’m being targeted.

“All I have been trying to do is make things better for people in this area. Now they are lobbing stuff at my house.”

Mr Knowles believes the youths gained access to the rear garden of an unoccupied house next door.

“I’m frightened another window will be put through. I’m scared to death.

“There has to be more intervention to stop these people. I feel as though society is out of control.”

Mr Knowles has reported both incidents to police and says he was grateful for the response of neighbourhood officers who attended and also sent a dog patrol to try and catch the offenders.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said last night: “Police are aware of the reports of a window being smashed at a property on Balfour Road this week.

“Investigations are ongoing into this incident. Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team are working closely with the occupant of the property and have visited him on a number of occasions to offer advice and reassurance.”
